Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership

Making youth mobility projects climate-smart from the first idea.

SustainMobility combines research, education, digital tools, and policy advocacy to help organisations plan greener Erasmus+ mobilities and empower young people to take meaningful climate action.

Project introduction

SustainMobility is a two-year Erasmus+ cooperation partnership dedicated to making youth mobility projects more environmentally sustainable. Led by an international consortium of organisations active in youth work, sustainability, and digital innovation, the project responds to a growing need: reducing the ecological footprint of Erasmus+ mobilities while empowering young people and organisations to take meaningful climate action.

Partners will collect real experiences, obstacles, and best practices to shape an interactive digital platform that calculates the carbon footprint of mobility projects and suggests practical ways to reduce it.

Project snapshot & mission

We build the evidence, tools, and policy momentum needed to help Erasmus+ organisations reduce their carbon footprint without reducing impact.

Project Snapshot

A two-year Erasmus+ cooperation partnership focused on greener youth mobility projects across Europe.

Mission

Reduce the ecological footprint of Erasmus+ mobilities while empowering organisations and young people with practical tools.

What We Deliver

Research insights, a carbon footprint calculator, a sustainable mobility handbook, and policy recommendations.

Call to action

We warmly invite organisations involved in Erasmus+ mobilities to take part in our research by completing our questionnaire. Your experience will shape the Carbon Footprint Platform and the Handbook, ensuring these tools reflect real needs on the ground.

Tips & Good Practices

Sustainability starts with everyday choices

Green Travel First

Promote rail, bus, and shared transport whenever possible. Offer planning tools that compare emissions.

Low-Impact Hosting

Prioritise eco-certified accommodation and locally sourced food. Reduce waste with reusable materials.

Learning by Doing

Run climate labs, workshops, and reflection sessions so participants turn insights into action.

About

Why the project exists

Erasmus+ mobilities empower young people across Europe, yet their environmental impact is growing. SustainMobility exists to make sustainability the default, not the exception, for youth mobility projects.

Project description

Throughout the project, partners will collect real experiences, obstacles, and best practices from youth organisations and young people involved in mobility programmes. These insights will shape an interactive digital platform capable of calculating the carbon footprint of a mobility project and suggesting practical ways to reduce it—covering travel, food, accommodation, materials, and more.

A connected Handbook of Sustainable Mobility Practices will guide organisations in making environmentally responsible choices, while three pilot youth exchanges involving 60 young people will test the platform in real time and deepen participants’ understanding of sustainability, climate change, food systems, and green travel.

The project will conclude with a policy recommendation paper aimed at strengthening the structural sustainability of the Erasmus+ Programme.
